NATO wants to increase the production of weapons, warns that the warehouses are

The arms industry must increase production as ammunition is "running out" due to the war in Ukraine, NATO Military Committee chief Admiral Rob Bauer said on Tuesday.

NATO has been pressing for a boost in defense production to meet growing demands for weapons and military equipment since the start of Russia's attack on Ukraine in February 2022. That's because allies are not only rushing to supply Kiev, but they are also looking to fill their warehouses.

Speaking on the first day of the Security Forum in Warsaw, Admiral Bauer said that although defense budgets had increased years before the war, the industry had not increased production capacity.

"This has led to higher prices than before the war. And this is actually exacerbated by the fact that we are now giving Ukraine defense systems and ammunition, which is a very good thing, but not keeping the warehouses full." he said.

Admiral Bauer added that it is necessary for the military industry to increase production at a much higher rate and that NATO countries need large volumes.

Last month Admiral Bauer warned that a drastic increase in the price of munitions meant that higher defense spending by allied countries did not automatically translate into greater security. He called for more private investment in defense companies./ VOA
