The Japanese Prime Minister is attacked with a smoke bomb

The Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, was attacked with a smoke bomb a day ago while giving a speech.

It is learned that the perpetrator was arrested at the scene in Wakayama.

A witness said they saw a person throwing a smoke bomb.e

Police say they have made an arrest, but have so far declined to comment further.

"The police are investigating the details, but I would like to apologize for disturbing many people and causing them trouble," said Kishida.

NHK broadcast footage showing crowds of people fleeing the scene in panic.

Kishida had just started giving a speech after visiting the Wakayama fishing port when the attack happened.

According to the media, this event will not stop the Japanese prime minister from continuing with his plans.

Hiroshi Moriyama, a member of Mr. Kishida's Liberal Democratic Party, said: "That something like this happened in the middle of an election campaign that is the foundation of democracy is unfortunate. It is inexcusable."/ CNA.al
