Kosovo cannot be conditioned by Serbia on holding or not the elections in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, declared the Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca, on Friday, after the meeting of the Presidency of the Assembly.

The extraordinary elections for mayors of four municipalities with a Serbian majority in the north of Kosovo - North Mitrovica, Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic - will be held on April 23.

"We cannot be conditioned by (the president of Serbia, Aleksandar) Vu?i?, by Belgrade, by Serbia, that they decide when there can be elections or not in Kosovo. The election is set. An earlier compromise has taken place and the elections have been postponed once. They have been postponed at the request of the international community. We have received a guarantee from them that they will not be postponed more than once", said Konjufca.

The elections were originally scheduled to be held last December, but were canceled because groups of citizens there caused incidents during the preparation phase.

Konjufca emphasized that the Serbian political parties that have decided to compete in the elections have already been certified, except for the Serbian List, which has refused to participate in the elections.

He praised the support of the QUINT countries (USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy) for holding the elections on April 23.

"I think that the attitude of QUINT and the international community was very positive, without the participation of the Serbian List, without the participation of the Serbian political parties in the elections, which announced on April 23, there is no formation of the Association (of municipalities with a Serbian majority) . I think that Kosovo does not need to move at all, before there are developments in this direction", emphasized Konjufca.

He added that Kosovo will implement all constitutional and institutional obligations in a peaceful manner.

The decision for the extraordinary elections was taken after the mayors of these municipalities, along with other Serbs, on November 5 of last year resigned, as a sign of opposition to the decision of the Government of Kosovo to start the process for re-registration of cars with illegal license plates.
