Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Court has indicted journalist Zeinab Rahimi for allegedly "spreading lies and violating public decency" after she commented on the death of 17-year-old Armita Garavand.
Garavand died last month after a confrontation with the so-called morality police.
Rahimi wrote on social media on November 12 that she and her lawyer attended a hearing in her case and that she has been released on bail pending the court's decision.
The details of the indictment against Rahim were not disclosed, but she had been summoned by the court in the past for similar charges, along with economics journalist Maryam Shokrani.
Radhimi is the fifth journalist to face the law just for commenting on Garavandi's death, which highlights the Iranian government's war against those who raise their voices on social networks, as well as its concerns that the teenager's death could cause unrest. similar to those of September 2022 after the death of Mahsa Amin.
Meanwhile, the economics journalist, Saeedeh Shafiei, was summoned by the court to serve a sentence of three years and six months in prison, which was imposed on her in July, allegedly for "contraband against the system", as well as "gathering information and had made secret agreements against the system".
Another journalist, Nasim Sultanbegi, received a similar sentence for the same case.
The heavy punishments being meted out to journalists shows the disobedience of women and schoolgirls, which is seen as the biggest threat to the Islamic Government since the 1979 revolution.
Several thousand others have been arrested since Amini died in police custody, where he was being held for allegedly violating the headscarf law, including many protesters, lawyers and activists./ REL
