Paint is dropped by drone on the Russian embassy in Sweden

An unidentified drone that flew over the Russian embassy in Stockholm on Friday morning dropped paint on the grounds of the diplomatic compound, Swedish police said.

So far authorities have not made any arrests and no suspects have been identified in connection with the incident, a police spokesman added.

" We insist that all incidents against the Russian embassy be thoroughly and impartially investigated and that the perpetrators be brought to justice ," said a statement from the Russian embassy in Sweden.

Authorities are investigating whether the incident was in any way connected to a reported case of vandalism at the Swedish embassy in Moscow on Thursday, according to the police spokesman.

After the incident in Moscow, Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard asked Russia to ensure the protection of Sweden's diplomatic mission and its personnel.

A Swedish foreign ministry spokesman said Sweden's embassy in Moscow was in contact with Russian authorities about Friday's incident.

" It is serious when a country's embassy is subject to vandalism ," Ms. Stenergard said in an emailed statement about the incident in Stockholm.

" Swedish authorities are responsible for the security of the embassy and the police have launched a preliminary investigation ," she added./ VOA
