Gërvalla: Russia is "carrying out a hybrid attack" against Kosovo

The Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, said on Tuesday that Russia is carrying out a cyber attack against Kosovo "after our announcement to support Ukraine with military equipment".

In an announcement on the X social network, Gërvalla said that Ukraine "is defending itself reasonably against Russian aggression and genocide", and that "we know from Serbia's genocide against Kosovo that only military means stop genocide".

She did not give details about the cyber attack against Kosovo.

Kosovo is in solidarity with Ukraine immediately after Russia began its full occupation in February 2022.

The state has followed the example of the European Union and the United States, imposing dozens of rounds of sanctions against Russia and sheltering Ukrainian journalists in Kosovo.

Russia is one of the main supporters of Serbia in opposing the independence of Kosovo, which Pristina declared in 2008.

Meanwhile, the Kosovar authorities have previously accused Russia of pushing Serbia to incite tensions in the neighboring country, although such claims have been rejected by Russia.

Last September, Kurti said that "Russia's allies", through disinformation and other malicious behavior in the cyber field, are affecting the process of normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

In a report by the Democracy Plus organization, published in 2022, it was said that Kosovo "is subject to misinformation from foreign malicious actors, such as Russia, China and Serbia".

The last reported cyber attacks against state institutions occurred in September 2022. The Kosovo government said at the time that the attack originated abroad, but did not say from which country.
