Finland asks Turkey and Hungary to approve the protocols for NATO membership

Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin on November 1 asked Hungary and Turkey to ratify the Swedish and Finnish protocols for NATO membership.

Hungary and Turkey are the last two NATO member countries that have not yet approved these protocols.

So far 28 of the 30 member countries have approved them.

"All eyes are now on Hungary and Turkey. We expect these countries to ratify our applications. I think it would be important for this to happen as soon as possible," Marin said at a joint press conference with other leaders. nordic.

Sweden and Finland's decision to join the military alliance followed the launch of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February and other aggressive steps the Kremlin has taken in the region. Public opinion in these two Nordic states soon supported NATO membership after the invasion began.
