EU funding/ Federica Mogherini and other officials released

Federica Mogherini, Stefano Sannino and Cesare Zegretti have been released from custody after being escorted as part of investigations into EU funding.

Federica Mogherini, Rector of the College of Europe and former EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, was released around 1:00 am.

She was detained yesterday as part of a fraud investigation involving the European External Action Service and the College of Europe.

Ambassador Stefano Sannino and the director of the College of Europe, Cesare Zegretti, were also detained yesterday and released overnight.

The charges against the three, involved in the alleged scandal involving the financing of young European diplomats, remain in force and relate to fraud and corruption in procurement, conflict of interest and violation of professional secrecy./CNA
