Eurostat: European youth most at risk of poverty

Young people in Europe are more at risk of falling into the poverty trap than the rest of the population, reports Euronews. 

The latest figures published by Eurostat show that 20% of young people aged 15-29 were at risk of poverty in 2021, while the at-risk-of-poverty rate for the total EU population was 17% . 

The indicator "does not necessarily imply a low standard of living, but measures the share of people with disposable income below the poverty line," Eurostat explains.

Të dhënat ndër vite tregojnë nivele më të larta të rrezikut nga varfëria për të rinjtë në krahasim me popullsinë në tërësi. Megjithatë, diferenca ka filluar të tkurret, pasi arriti kulmin në vitin 2016.

Shkalla e rrezikut nga varfëria ishte më e lartë për të rinjtë krahasuar me popullsinë totale në 19 vende të BE-së në vitin 2021. 

Danimarka kishte hendekun më të madh, me 25.6% të të rinjve në rrezik krahasuar me 12.3% të popullsisë së përgjithshme. Suedia pasoi Danimarkën me një diferencë prej gati nëntë pikë përqindjeje. 

Letonia, Malta, Estonia dhe Kroacia kishin dallimet më të dukshme, ndërsa Republika Çeke kishte rrezikun më të ulët të varfërisë midis vendeve të BE-së.
