DASH proposes guarantees of up to $15,000 for visas

The US State Department has proposed a 12-month pilot program that could require applicants for business and tourist visas to post a financial guarantee of up to $15,000 to enter the country.

The initiative comes at a time when the administration is tightening visa requirements.

The figure is related to the application process for many people from around the world, including Albanians.

Under the proposal, people from countries considered to have high rates of illegal overstays and deficiencies in internal document checks could be required to submit a bond of $5,000, $10,000 or $15,000 when applying for a visa.

A year ago, the State Department announced that many visa renewal applicants would undergo an additional face-to-face interview, something that had not previously been mandatory.

It is also being proposed that applicants for the Diversity Visa Lottery program must have valid passports from their country of citizenship. /CNA
