Biden and Trump will meet in the Oval Office next week

United States President Joe Biden will welcome President-elect Donald Trump to a traditional post-election meeting in the Oval Office on Wednesday, November 13, the White House announced on Saturday.

Such a meeting is common between the outgoing president and the incoming president, and is primarily intended to mark the beginning of a peaceful transition of power consistent with American democracy.

But Trump, then president, had not welcomed Biden to such a meeting after the 2020 election, when Trump lost his bid for re-election. Trump, a Republican, ran for president again four years later, and last Tuesday, he defeated Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee.

Trump is the first former president to return to power since Grover Cleveland, who won the 1892 election to return to the White House.
