Russia ready to listen to Donald Trump's proposal to end the war

Russia is ready to listen to President-elect Donald Trump's proposal to end the war, an official said, as one person was killed and 13 others were wounded in Russian attacks in Odesa and the Union's foreign policy chief Europeans held talks in Kiev regarding support for Ukraine after the change of US administration in January.

Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Ryabkov, said that Moscow and Washington were "exchanging signals" regarding Ukraine through what he described as "closed channels".

He did not elaborate on whether the communication was with the current US administration or with Mr Trump and the expected team of his new administration.

Russia is ready to listen to Mr. Trump's proposals on Ukraine if there were "ideas on how to move forward in the sense of an agreement, and not how to supply the Kiev regime with any kind of aid," Mr. Ryabkov said in an interview with the Russian state news agency, Interfax.

However, questions are mounting over what Kiev can expect from the new Republican administration. Mr. Trump has consistently criticized American aid to Ukraine and made vague promises to end the war, while praising Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During a visit to Kiev on Saturday, EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell assured Ukraine of European support.

"The European Union's support for Ukraine has been my personal priority during my mandate and will continue to be at the top of the European Union's agenda ," he wrote on the X./VOA network.
