US indicts man over Iranian plot to kill Trump

Authorities in the United States have indicted an Iranian man in connection with an alleged plot to kill Donald Trump before he was elected president earlier this week.

The US Department of Justice released criminal charges on November 8 for the botched plot to kill Donald Trump before he was elected the 47th president of the US.

The indictment filed in federal court in Manhattan alleges that an unnamed official in Iran's Revolutionary Guard instructed a contact of his in September to devise a plan to spy on and kill Trump.

If this person, identified as Farjad Shakeri, could not come up with a plan by then, according to the indictment, the Iranian official told him that Iran would put his plan on hold until after the presidential election because the official believed Trump would lose the election. on Nov. 5 and it would have been easier for him to be killed afterward, the indictment said.

According to the indictment, Shaker told the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that he had not proposed any plan to kill Trump within seven days, as the official had requested.

That plot, along with the indictment that was made public just days after Trump defeated Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, shows what federal officials describe as ongoing efforts by Iran to target US government officials, including Trump, on American soil. /REL
