Biden and Scholz meet at the White House

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visits the White House on Friday for a meeting with US President Joe Biden, as the two leaders voiced their concerns that China could be supplying Russia with weapons for its war in Ukraine.

Such a move by China could potentially change the trajectory of the war, allowing Moscow to replenish its depleted stockpile of armaments.

Scholz, during a speech in the German Parliament, called on China to use its influence in Moscow to press for the withdrawal of Russian troops and not to supply Russia with arms.

Asked about the circumstances of his visit, Scholz said he and Biden "want to talk directly to each other," and he described the situation as "a global situation where things have become very difficult."

Scholz has dismissed any notion of discord between the allies.
