The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, was present today at the Auditors' Conference.

In his speech, Sekjo focused on the role of internal audit, a process that, as he emphasized, is a fundamental pillar of financial stability, integrity and reliability.

Sekjo stated that for the banking system, auditing is part of risk management, which is also developed by the banking law as a regulatory procedure.

“For the Bank of Albania and for the banking system as a whole, internal audit is a fundamental pillar of financial stability, integrity and credibility. The Law on Banks and our regulatory framework attach particular importance to internal governance, risk management and independent control functions, including internal audit as a key mechanism for ensuring the sustainability of financial institutions. In a reality where the financial sector faces rapid transformations, from digitalization and technological innovation, to cyber risks and global challenges, the role of internal audit becomes increasingly strategic. It is not only a control instrument, but an essential function for risk prevention, process improvement and supporting sound decision-making. In this context, the Bank of Albania has continued to consolidate the internal audit function as the third line of control, demonstrating high professional maturity and compliance with international standards. Through external quality assessments (EQA) and periodic self-assessments, strengthening reporting and cooperation with the Audit Committee and the Supervisory Council, as well as active engagement in strategic projects such as operational risk management and business continuity management (BCM), internal audit has contributed to increasing transparency, accountability and institutional sustainability", said Sejko. /CNA
