Top Channel anti-Semitic show/ Why is the AMA silent?

A few days ago, the public learned how rarely in our country, a foreign embassy is forced to react to a television show that is broadcast on a national media.

It is about the Embassy of Israel in Tirana, which reacted with a verbal note addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the show 'Rrethi Katror' on June 5, 2022, on Top Channel, one of the guests expressed anti-Semitic opinions.

The Israeli embassy notes that the host of the show did not intervene, allowing the guest to repeatedly make anti-Jewish comments.

Nota vë në dukje se një gjë e tillë është krejtësisht kundër traditës shqiptare, si i vetmi vend në uropë, që i shpëtoi hebrenjtë përpara, gjatë dhe mbas periudhës së Holokaustit.

Kush ka qenë i vëmendshëm ndaj angazhimeve të politikës tonë të jashtme, e di mjaft mirë që Shqipëria ka një qasje dhe koordinim në nivel ndërkombëtar në luftën kundër antisemitizmit, madje kjo është një vlerë me të cilën ne mburremi.

Shqipëria është vend vëzhgues në Aleancën Ndërkombëtare përPërkujtimin e Holokaustit dhe ka qenë ndër shtetet që ka miratuar në parlament përkufizimin për antisemitizimin, që që i ndihmon institucionet shqiptare për ta kuptuar më mirë dhe luftuar këtë fenomen.

"We kindly ask you to take the necessary steps to prevent such anti-Semitic discourse, incitement and intent that can undoubtedly cause bloodshed and suffering to innocent people (locals and tourists)," the Israel Embassy note verbale said.

But, while the Embassy has undertaken the necessary diplomatic actions, a big question is raised about the role being played by the institution responsible for monitoring the media.

What is the Audiovisual Media Authority doing in this regard?

Does it control the content of such shows, as required by Law 97/2013 on Audiovisual Media?

What is the role of the AMA to avoid such incidents that happen in the Albanian media, even more so in a media with a national license?/ CNA.al
