World Cup 2026/ Dream trip amid high costs and security concerns

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19 and will be hosted for the first time in three countries: the United States, Canada and Mexico. The tournament will feature 48 teams and is expected to attract an estimated 6.5 million fans from around the world, making it one of the biggest sporting events in history.

Host cities and tourist experiences

The matches will be held in 16 cities, including metropolises such as New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Toronto. Organizers and tour guides suggest that fans use the trip to explore the host cities as well.

In Toronto, visitors can enjoy neighborhoods like Kensington Market or Harbourfront, as well as cultural events like art and music festivals. Meanwhile, Vancouver offers spectacular nature and indigenous cultural experiences. In Mexico City, tourists can combine soccer with gastronomy and art in popular areas like Roma Norte or Condesa.

Safety remains the focus

While excitement is high, security is expected to be a major concern. European officials have asked FIFA for additional measures to protect fans, citing geopolitical tensions and recent incidents of violence, particularly in some regions of Mexico.

Although there are no signs that the tournament will be unsafe, border controls and security measures are expected to be stricter than in past editions.

An expensive World Cup

The cost of travel is another major challenge. Airfare for international fans can reach around $1,000, while hotel prices have increased by up to 300% in host cities.

Local transportation is also expected to be expensive, with parking that could run up to $75 per game and services like Uber that could cost around $100 for a ride.

Additionally, some fans from certain countries may face security deposit requirements of up to $15,000 to obtain a visa to the U.S. Meanwhile, ticket prices for matches have increased significantly due to high demand.

A unique experience, but not for everyone

The 2026 World Cup promises to be an unforgettable experience, combining sport with culture and travel. However, high costs and logistical challenges could make it unaffordable for many fans, turning the event into a luxury for a limited segment of the public./ Adapted from  CNA
