Thyroid tumor treatment at the American Hospital/ Oncologist: Early diagnosis,

One of the diseases that has shown a significant increase in incidence in recent years, not only in the world, but also in Albania, is thyroid cancer. At the American Hospital 3, Prof. Dr. Harsha KN, an internationally renowned oncologist and ENT surgeon, in the diagnosis and treatment of this disease, explained the reasons for the spread and symptoms of thyroid cancer.

" This is due to increased awareness, screening programs and improved detection with advanced imaging and diagnostic techniques. Thyroid cancer often does not show any noticeable symptoms in the early stages, so it is very important that any mass, lump or swelling in the neck, whether in the thyroid region or any other region of the neck, should be evaluated ," said Dr. Harsha KN.

Early diagnosis is the key to successful treatment.

" People who have a strong family history of thyroid disease, especially medullary thyroid cancer, are at higher risk and should have regular checkups. Likewise, individuals who have had radiation exposure in childhood, such as radiation treatment to the neck region, should also be careful. For those who have had previous treated thyroid diseases, checkups are also recommended. People with these risk factors should have examinations every year or every two years, even if they have no symptoms, to enable early detection of possible diseases, " the doctor said.

Prof. Dr. Harsha KN at American Hospital 3 uses advanced surgical techniques in the treatment of this disease.

" Surgery is the main treatment for thyroid cancer and usually involves removing part of the thyroid or the entire thyroid. In cases where the disease has spread, lymph nodes and surrounding tissue may also be removed. For differentiated cancers, such as Papillary and Follicular, radioactive iodine therapy is often used after surgery to treat the remaining thyroid tissue. In more advanced cases of the disease, systemic therapies such as immunotherapy and targeted therapy may be used. Also, hormonal therapy that lowers TSH levels helps in managing the cancer, while supportive therapies are always part of the treatment ," concluded Dr. Harsha KN./ CNA
