Plague Case in Postribë/ Veterinary Service: Infected Animals Will Be

After the first case of plague of small ruminants in Postrriba, the national veterinary service has reacted.

Its director Sulejman Kullolli from Shkodra said that in addition to the quarantine of the farm, the remains are also being buried.

"As you are aware, for the first time in Albania, plague appeared in a village in Postrriba. This disease was reported by the farmer on June 3. The farm has been quarantined. Today, the heads will be eliminated and the area will be isolated in 3 to 10 km. The movement of animals within the territory is prohibited, so in Shkodër and Malësi e Madhe, the movement of animals is not allowed, this is to prevent the continuation. This disease affects small animals but does not threaten human health. From monitoring, we had an indication yesterday in another area. We showed up at the farm but no signs of this disease were found. With the restrictive measures, the relevant measures have been taken with institutions and we are stopping the movement of animals," said Sulejman Kullolli, General Director of the Veterinary Service.

Kullolli denied that the farm's meat or by-products have been released to the market.

"We are dealing with a small farm and neither its meat nor its milk has been released to the market. It is not a disease that is transmitted by by-products if it is boiled. The veterinary service carries out controls and we have no findings on other farms. I call on every farmer, when in doubt, to immediately notify the nearest veterinary service."

In Shkodra and Malësia e Madhe, the transportation and sale of small items is currently prohibited./ CNA
