Renowned rhapsodist and lute player Jonuz Delaj passed away at the age of 76.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports has shared a message about the extinction of Delaj, which it describes as "the lute's neighborhood."
"As recounted in reports dedicated to his life, Jonuz Delaj carried the lute as part of his being, singing epic songs learned orally, without writing or scenography, only with memory, voice and spiritual strength. For him, the lute was not an instrument, but evidence of Albanian identity and history.
Today, this heritage takes on even greater significance, as the Albanian lute enjoys UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status – an accolade that also honors figures like Jonuz Delaj, who preserved it in its purest form.
He passed away, but his voice remains engraved in the sound of the lute, in the Albanian epic and in our collective memory. Albanian institutions are committed to preserving, transmitting to generations and educating on knowledge, so that our treasures of tradition live, be shown and practiced forever", - the announcement says, among other things./CNA
