Democrat Ilir Alimehmeti made a comment today regarding the large-scale fire that engulfed a residential complex this week in Tirana.

Invited to A2 CNN, Alimehmeti stated that the biggest problem was created by the use of a non-resistant material, with which not only this palace, but also many others, was built.

Alimehmeti criticized the management style, which, according to him, was a big show and a lack of preparation.

"First of all, you should not allow problems to arise. A tower burned down in London many years ago and from that moment the problem of that type of material was understood. Another type of fire-resistant material was created. But, this type of material was not the only one built with this type of material, we have also had other cases of fires in Tirana. It is the same problem, if a part of it catches fire, it will not stop because it is a highly flammable material. We noticed the protective equipment of the firefighters. They were forced to ask for help from other fire departments outside Tirana for a fire. If you noticed, the funny part was a helicopter that was dropping water from above, when the building had a side burn. How would that fire be put out... The helicopter is for fields, forests or mountains. Here we have a big show, but zero preparation. All the preparations are zero. However, in the case of the building, for better or worse, the fire department entered. There are other areas of Tirana where it cannot enter, not even "No fire department, no ambulance. We have people who don't want to care about anything. They have interests that don't make them act on these situations," said Alimehmeti./CNA
