Kevi Muçllari was released from prison today after being arrested for a physical altercation with Pogradec municipal councilor Çngjëll Shyti. His release came after the Korça Court declared his arrest illegal today.

In a statement to the media, he stated that his detention was against the law, while adding that at the Municipal Council meeting he was defending the interests of the community.

"First of all, I thank my family, friends and comrades who have been by my side during these very difficult days. The court gave the expected decision. My arrest was declared illegal because it really was. I also expressed myself in court, I am not a criminal. I was there in defense of the community's interest, in defense of a cause that we have thought of as right and think of as right. It was not my intention to violate anyone because of my duty. This was a deeply unjust decision. I am grateful to the judge who made a fair decision in relation to me. I thank the residents who were by my side during these very difficult days, they came out to protest because they understood that we were protesting not to get something in return but simply because our interests were being violated there. We were directly affected, so we had to defend our interest with arguments and facts, just as you were present. To be honest, they were very difficult days. I never expected that "I would be a prisoner and I would experience the horror that I would experience," Muçllari said. /CNA
