EU Ambassador defends Balluku: She is innocent

During an interview on Top Channel, the European Union Ambassador, Silvio Gonzato, spoke for the first time about the investigation launched by SPAK into the Llogara tunnel and the Deputy Prime Minister, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku.

Gonzato stated that the EU's policy is not to comment on cases under investigation as the principle governing the judiciary is the presumption of innocence.

He said that people cannot be punished before investigations are carried out.

" We have a policy of not commenting on matters under investigation. Because one of the principles that governs the judiciary is the presumption of innocence. So, you can't start sentencing people before investigations and judicial proceedings have taken place ," the ambassador declared./ CNA
