A documentary, titled "The Persecution of the Clergy of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania during the Communist Regime 1944 - 1990," presents with facts, evidence and authentic testimony the persecution, imprisonment, and murder of Orthodox clergy in Albania.

The documentary airs tomorrow, Saturday, July 5, at 8:30 PM on CNA TV.

During the communist regime, the Orthodox clergy suffered a severe blow, with dozens of clergymen being executed, sentenced and exiled, while in 1967 the communist authorities closed religious activity with a special decree, a decision that was also followed by the destruction of religious objects, such as mosques, churches and tekkes.

Propaganda and persecution against the clergy in our country began before the establishment of the communist regime, where clergy were targeted by regime officials in connection with their activities.

Although they were part of Albania's cultural and historical heritage, according to official data, 608 Orthodox churches and monasteries were destroyed from 1967 onwards .
