Amphitheater of Durres

After the archeological park of Butrint, the Amphitheater of Durrës is the next to be managed by a private foundation.

The Albanian-American development fund is also being extended to Durrës to manage it for 15 years. This plan covers the archaeological area A and B, or in other words, it includes the amphitheater, the Roman baths, and the Byzantine forum.

The most expensive intervention foreseen in the plan is expected to take place in the Amphitheater of Durrës. This investment takes the figure up to 3.3 million dollars and 2.3 million dollars will go to the Roman baths and the Byzantine forum in a period of 3 to 10 years to close.

The plan also foresees the demolition of houses and surrounding buildings. The drawn up plan also talks about the interest groups with whom AADF has consulted, including the association of the blind, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Durrës, the Rotary Club, the association of architects where there are no regional directorates of cultural heritage, the National Institute of Registration of Cultural Heritage, or even independent specialists. 

The management plan of archaeological areas A and B of the city of Durrës has been submitted for public consultation by the Albanian government until August 3 of this year./euronews
