German Ambassador Bergner delivers modern equipment to the Border Police worth

The German Ambassador to Albania, Karl Bergner, today delivered document reading devices, heart rate detectors and document control equipment to the director of the Border Police.

As announced in a post on social media, the equipment, worth around 285,000 euros, was provided at the initiative of the German Federal Police within the framework of the EU4FAST project, "EU support for strengthening the fight against migrant smuggling and human trafficking in the Western Balkans."

The project is implemented in the region by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Italian Ministry of the Interior, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of France, with support from the European Union.

Through the use of new technology, it is expected to shorten the waiting time at border control at Albanian borders for travelers, enabling a faster and safer journey to and from neighboring countries. It also aims to detect and prevent the trafficking of migrants in life-threatening conditions.

Ambassador Bergner emphasized that the ceremony sends a strong signal of their joint commitment to strengthening the rule of law and fighting organized crime. Germany is proud to support Albania and the Western Balkans region in improving border management and protecting people at risk. These efforts are part of a broader coordinated approach, where Germany, the European Union, France and the Netherlands work together to improve the conditions for preventing and combating smuggling and trafficking in human beings in line with EU standards./CNA
