Professor Jen Golbeck from the University of Maryland has expressed concern that this technology could be misused to violate privacy.

Regulators, such as the UK Information Commissioner's Office, are investigating ways to protect user privacy in this context.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has tried to ease concerns by saying that the data resides only on the user's device and he has full control over it.

He also said that the screenshots never leave the user's device.

Some experts and analysts have appreciated that everything is built with security and privacy at the core, allowing users to control and customize its access in various ways to ensure that they have full control over their data.

Potential for malicious uses

Professor Jen Golbeck expresses concern that Microsoft's new tool could cause privacy violations for individuals in various situations, such as journalists in hostile countries, people in abusive relationships, or those with sensitive medical information.

She believes this technology could have a huge impact on the workplace, making it easy for IT departments to monitor users' personal activities on work devices.

Golbeck points out that while the technology has benefits, it is often developed without consideration of malicious uses.

She recalls experience with other technologies such as biometric passwords and expresses concern that users may not fully understand the risk to privacy.

On the other hand, experts like Michela Menting see this feature as a step forward for privacy, pointing out that hackers can use such tools for their own purposes, using clever methods to find ways to access systems. CNA
