What is known about the cyber crash?

A significant part of the world faced major problems on Friday caused by a cyber breakdown that affected companies and firms in almost all areas of industry, blocking flights, banking operations, hospitals and many media companies.

At the heart of the problem lies the wrong update of an application by the computer security company "CrowdStrike", which provides software for many companies around the world.

How did the communication problem happen on Friday?

The company "CrowdStrike" started updating one of the security programs called "Falcon". In a statement regarding the situation, the company said that the flaw was discovered in the update of "an element used in Windows systems" and that Mac and Linux programs were not affected.

But because many companies use "CrowdStrike" software for security needs for the "Windows" operating system, the consequences of this technical problem have had a wide impact on almost the entire world.

The flaw caused problems at airports in the United States, Europe and Asia during the busy summer period. Banks in South Africa and New Zealand announced disruptions affecting online payments and services. Several TV channels, mainly in Australia, were unable to broadcast for hours.

Some hospitals had problems with patient service systems, causing delays and cancellations. The giant screens in New York's famous Times Square were blocked. Experts point out that Friday's outages highlight the dependence of many companies around the world on a program that is offered only by a few firms.
