Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid have officially parted ways. The Italian coach will leave after the match against Real Sociedad on May 24.

The departure was confirmed by the club on Friday, although the decision had been made earlier. Ancelotti thanked the club, the president, the players and the fans for their support during his years at Madrid.

He described his second period as Real Madrid coach as unforgettable and full of achievements.

"We will follow our separate paths again. I hold in my heart every moment I have lived in this wonderful second phase as Real Madrid coach. They have been unforgettable years, an extraordinary journey full of emotions, titles and, above all, the pride of representing this emblem. I thank president Florentino Perez, the club, my players, my collaborators and, above all, the unique fans who have always made me feel like one of them. What we achieved together will remain forever in the memory of the Madrid people, not only because of the victories, but also because of the way we achieved them. The magical nights at the 'Bernabeu' are already part of football history. Now a new adventure begins, but my bond with Real Madrid is eternal. See you soon, Madrid people," the Italian wrote.

The Italian will take charge of the Brazil national team.

Xabi Alonso, currently the coach of Bayer Leverkusen, is expected to be appointed in his place. The club has not yet given an official confirmation of Ancelotti's successor.
