Serie A takes shape, calendar for 2025-2026 season determined

The new Serie A 2025/2026 season has officially taken shape, following the publication of the calendar. The Italian championship will start on the weekend of August 24, 2025 and will include a classic 38-week structure, ending on May 24, 2026.

As part of the season planning, two midweek matches have also been scheduled, which will take place on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 and Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in line with the busy schedule expected this season due to the involvement of Italian clubs in European competitions and international commitments. There will be four stops for national team matches in total and are scheduled for the following dates: September 7, October 12, November 16, 2025 and March 29, 2026.

The first important match of the season is scheduled for the weekend of September 14, when Juventus will host Inter, in one of the most watched duels of the championship. Just a week later, fans will be able to enjoy the derby between Roma and Lazio, a match that is traditionally associated with high intensity on the pitch and great public interest.

Milan have a challenging period in the early part of the season, as they face Napoli in Week 5 and then Juventus in Week 6. The long-awaited clash between Milan and Inter, known as the Milan derby, is scheduled for Week 12 of the championship. This placement of the derby in the middle of the first phase of the championship gives the opportunity for a significant impact on the then-current standings.

The calendar is designed to balance head-to-head matches between the big teams as much as possible, avoiding a concentration of strong matches in a single period. The objective is to ensure a steady pace of interest and competitiveness throughout the season, allowing clubs to optimally manage their workload, especially those involved in international competitions.

The structure of the 2025/2026 season also takes into account the preparations for the upcoming club and national team competitions, including strategic breaks and tight date management to maintain sporting intensity and the quality of the competition. In this context, the Italian Football Federation has aimed to combine the needs of the league with those of the national team and UEFA, creating a functional calendar for all parties involved.
