Renewal not enough, Maignan risks leaving Milan

The summer is expected to bring numerous changes to Milan, after a season that ended with fifth place in the championship and without securing a place in the Champions League.

After Rafael Leaos' statements, which hinted that he could leave after seven years with the red and black jersey, now Mike Maignan is also thinking about the future. The French goalkeeper, one of the team's main figures in recent seasons, is considering the alternatives that the European market can offer him.

On January 31, the club formalized the renewal of the goalkeeper's contract until June 30, 2031. The new agreement guaranteed the Frenchman a salary of 5 million euros net per season, plus 2 million euros in bonuses, placing him on the same level as Rafael Leaon in terms of economic benefits.

At the time, the renovation was considered an important step for Milan's sporting project. Massimiliano Allegri, Igli Tare and goalkeeping coach Claudio Filpi played an important role in this process. The relationship established between Maignan and these figures significantly influenced his decision to continue his collaboration with the club.

However, the situation has changed. The three names that were considered reference points for the French goalkeeper are no longer part of the current project. At the same time, Milan's absence from the Champions League has created uncertainty about the club's sporting objectives for the coming seasons.

In this situation, interested clubs have begun to closely monitor developments. The name most often mentioned is that of Chelsea. The English club had tried to transfer the French goalkeeper before, but negotiations were not finalized.

On the other hand, Bayern Munich seem less interested than in previous periods. The renewal of Manuel Neuer's contract has reduced the German club's need to look for a new goalkeeper in the short term.
