FIFA President Gianni Infantino has stated that consideration should be given to lifting Russia's suspension from international tournaments.
Russia was banned from international football after its invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Infantino spoke out against the boycott, stressing that this exclusion has not brought positive results.
According to him, the bans have only increased frustration and negative feelings. He stressed that the involvement of young Russians in European football could send a positive message.
"We should definitely consider Russia's return. This exclusion has achieved nothing, it has only created more frustration and hatred. I am against exclusions and boycotts, as they only create more hatred," he said, adding that the inclusion of Russian youth in European football would send a positive message.
These statements come at a time when Infantino has intensified relations with US President Donald Trump.
FIFA has opened offices in Trump Tower and Ivanka Trump has been named to a charity project. Meanwhile, the US prepares to host the World Cup amid calls for a boycott.
