The US Soccer Federation posts the Iranian flag without the Islamic emblem

Before the USA-Iran match that takes place on Tuesday, in the framework of the World Cup, the American Football Federation revealed for a short time on social media, the national flag of Iran without the emblem of the Islamic Republic. Federation officials said this was done to support protesters in Iran in their efforts to defend basic human rights.

In a reaction, the government of Iran said that the United States has removed the god's name from its national flag.

Since the protests began, at least 450 people have been killed and more than 18,000 arrested, according to Iran Human Rights Activists.

Official Tehran has not published numbers of victims or arrests and claims, without providing evidence, that the protests were instigated by its foreign enemies, among them the United States./VOA
