Europe dominates the World Cup, UEFA prepares special request to FIFA

The 2026 World Cup has once again restored the dominance of European and South American football, with France, Spain, England and Argentina all securing a place in the semi-finals.

According to statistics, out of 23 editions of the World Cup, European national teams have reached the semi-finals 65 times, while South American teams have reached the semi-finals 24 times.

Africa has only had one representative at this stage, Morocco in 2022, while Asia once with South Korea in 2002. The 2030 World Cup will be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, while Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will host commemorative matches for the tournament's 100th anniversary.

A new qualifying format is also being discussed in Europe, similar to the Champions League model, where 36 national teams could be divided into three groups of 12 teams each.

The idea of ??representing Europe with more than 16 teams in the next World Cup, taking into account historical results, has been floated. For this, UEFA is expected to make a request to FIFA to increase the number of European national teams in the World Cup.
