BREAKING NEWS/ FIFA's plan for a 64-team World Cup revealed

FIFA is considering the possibility of expanding the World Cup to 64 teams starting with the 2030 edition.

President Gianni Infantino confirmed that the proposal would be discussed by the relevant bodies after the current tournament. The idea comes shortly after the switch from a 32-team format to a 48-team format that will be applied to the next World Cup.

According to Infantino, the expansion would give more countries the opportunity to dream of participating in football's biggest competition. The 2030 World Cup is planned to be held across three continents and six countries, with Spain, Portugal and Morocco as the main hosts.

Meanwhile, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay are expected to host a match each to mark the tournament's 100th anniversary. A 64-team format could give these countries the opportunity to host more matches.

However, the idea has faced opposition from leaders such as UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin and CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani, who consider the expansion detrimental to international football.
