The World Cup raises its head, Infantino reveals the favorites for the trophy

The 2026 World Cup has officially entered the final phase of preparations before the start of the tournament.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has presented the trophy and official ball at Mexico's legendary Azteca Stadium.

The head of the world organization described this edition as the largest event in human history, predicting around six billion viewers.

Infantino also touched on the issue of tickets, specifying that so far over six million have been sold worldwide.

He defended the pricing policies, emphasizing that the minimum value of $60 is among the lowest for the American market.

Finally, the FIFA president analyzed the favorite teams for the trophy, highlighting European and Latin American teams.

He particularly praised the presence of big stars like Lionel Messi, calling their participation a celebration of football.

"Organizing a World Cup is not easy. This is the biggest event in the history of mankind. About 6 billion people will follow it from their homes. Football brings unique emotions, tears of joy and disappointment. I thank the authorities of Mexico, the United States and Canada for their hospitality and cooperation.

More than six million tickets have been sold. There are still tickets available. The minimum price of $60 is among the lowest for a sporting event in the US. The price increase is related to the ticket resale system and not to FIFA. All of our revenue is reinvested in the development of football worldwide.

 


"I'm not a football expert, but I'm convinced it will be an extraordinary tournament. The favorites are Spain, France, England and Portugal. Argentina, Brazil, Morocco, Senegal and Japan also have very strong teams. Seeing Argentina at the World Cup is always spectacular. Messi is one of the greatest and his presence, along with the other stars, is the best thing that could happen to football," Infantino declared.
