Accusations of racism by Vinicius, Prestianni punished

UEFA has announced a one-match provisional suspension for Gianluca Prestianni, who will miss the return leg against Real Madrid in the Champions League play-offs.

The decision follows the opening of an investigation into alleged discriminatory conduct during the first leg in Lisbon. The case arose after Vinicius Junior alleged racist abuse.

The disciplinary body has stressed that the measure is temporary and does not prejudge the final decision. The investigation is ongoing and the player risks a longer suspension.

According to his statements, the comment made was homophobic and not racist in nature. However, both cases fall under the disciplinary framework for discriminatory behavior and may result in similar sanctions.
