Decline in fertility and increase in mortality in Albania, here is the region

Demographic indicators for the first quarter of this year indicate a decline in births and an increase in deaths during 2025.

Based on data published by INSTAT, during 2025, 22,541 babies were born in Albania and 21,394 deaths were recorded.

As a result, the natural increase in the population resulted positive with 1,147 more births than deaths, however, decreasing compared to 2024.

Regarding the division by districts, during 2025, Tirana recorded the highest number of births with 10,866 babies. The district with the fewest births was Gjirokastra with only 292 births.

The largest increase was recorded in Tirana with +20.7%, while the deepest decrease was in Dibër with -37.7%. /CNA
