Arctic cold comes to the Balkans/ Frosts and drop in temperatures expected

A major Arctic cold front is spreading across much of Europe and is becoming more pronounced across central and eastern Europe and the Balkan Peninsula.

This cold snap is forecast to bring frosty mornings in the coming days, including snow in some areas.

After a recent warm spell and well-above-normal temperatures in March 2025, a significant change in Europe's overall weather pattern is coming to the continent. A powerful cold blast from the Arctic will then spread across Eastern Europe, including the Balkan Peninsula, part of the Mediterranean and Turkey.

As we enter the second week of April, temperatures have already warmed and the growing season has begun in many parts of Europe, including flowering fruit trees. Therefore, these late-season bursts of cold air mass are dangerous for this vulnerable vegetation.

Very low morning and night temperatures often cause significant damage to flowering fruit trees and other vegetation. They become sensitive to temperatures just a few degrees below zero, especially in the early stages of their growth.
