Case of success/ A rare operation is performed for the first time in Albania

A case of success has been achieved at the "Shefqet Ndroqi" hospital in Tirana.

Doctors have performed a rare operation for the first time, resection of the trachea.

Tracheal resection was performed in a 30-year-old patient who was diagnosed with a severe tracheal stenosis and tracheo-esophageal fistula, as a result of prolonged intubation.

The news was announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama, who thanked the doctors and nurses who performed this intervention.

"A rare operation is performed for the first time in Albanian medicine. Tracheal resection at "QSR Tirana Shefqet Ndroqi" was performed on a 30-year-old patient who was diagnosed with a severe stenosis of the trachea and tracheo-esophageal fistula, as a result of prolonged intubation. In this very complex intervention that is performed only in highly specialized clinics around the world, the patient underwent a 3 cm resection of the upper part of the trachea and a successful tracheo-laryngeal anastmosis was performed.
