Journalist Mentor Kikia said today that after a series of accusations and dismissal from office, the arrested former mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj no longer has any influence in the Socialist Party.

Invited to Euronews Albania, Kikia said that in the race for Tirana, the socialists want a victory over the opposition, while the opposition is preparing with the candidate it supports.

Kikia said that both Manastirliu and Binaj are still in the early stages of the Tirana Municipality elections.

"Veliaj no longer has influence in the SP. So, if elections were to be held now and Tirana were to be won by the Socialists, Veliaj's political end would be sealed. Immediately after Manastriliu was declared a candidate, the headquarters were appointed. I believe that in Tirana, the SP does not simply want victory, but will be more over Veliaj than over the opposition. The SP's message has been to not let the pace of activity drop. Both parties still do not know where they are, if we refer to sports, have they started that first warm-up.
