EPP includes Albania in four global priorities

The European People’s Party (EPP) has published an official video from the proceedings of the International Democratic Union (CDI) Assembly, held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where it participates as a member organisation. In her statement, MEP and EPP Secretary General Dolors Montserrat presented the four main joint conclusions of the proceedings.

One of the four main points presented by the EPP was specifically related to Albania. Montserrat stressed that the country's European integration process must remain conditional on respecting democratic standards and guaranteeing institutional independence.

"We insist that Albania's membership in the European Union be conditioned on stopping the democratic slide and the capture of the media and justice, carried out by a leadership linked to drug trafficking, organized crime and money laundering," the statement says.

The EPP's stance constitutes a clear political signal towards European institutions and Albanian authorities, underlining the importance of returning to the standards of the rule of law, transparency and independence of the media and judicial system. /CNA
