The leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, stated that the best solution for the opposition to increase its chances of winning the elections in the Municipality of Tirana is to come up with a consensual candidate.

In a statement to CNA, Mediu said that a divided opposition's stance would only result in votes being taken away from the main opposition candidate.

Regarding the Republican Party, Mediu stated that it is part of the opposition and will continue to cooperate in proposing and evaluating candidates for the capital.

"The broad opposition coalition is necessary, considering the fact that we are facing an authoritarian regime that does not respect free and fair elections. The opposition united around a consensual candidate increases the chances of winning. The divided opposition only takes away votes from the main candidate. The Republican Party is part of the opposition cooperation and undoubtedly of the proposal and evaluation of candidates," said Mediu. /CNA
