Political scientist Ermal Hasimja commented today on the protests recently held by the Democratic Party.

Invited to "Euronews Albania", Hasimja described the Democrats' latest commitment as part of the steps to confront Prime Minister Edi Rama.

According to Hasime, the Democrats have also had offers about the possibility of a hunger strike.

"Within the DP, many people want to express more commitment and vitality in protests, whether through participation or activities. There have been offers for the possibility of a hunger strike, which has been overlooked at times, mentioned at other times, but it seems that these are the first steps in confronting Rama. It is interesting to see this, but also similar cases in the region. The most similar case is that of Romania in 2013–2018, a case identical to Albania. There, the National Anti-Corruption Directorate was created, a kind of SPAK, of its own kind, even less protected than our SPAK. This structure began to strike and its strikes forced politics to openly oppose justice. This brought an extraordinary reaction from public opinion, which went beyond the boundaries of political parties, especially since this structure there struck all parties. The gigantic protests in Romania forced the government to withdraw legal initiatives," Hasimja said. /CNA
