Discussions on the new Criminal Code/ Lamallari: A meeting with all heads of

Minister of Justice, Besfort Lamallari, responded to questions from members of parliament regarding the new Criminal Code. Lamallari stated that some justice institutions have shared their opinions on the draft.

He also announced that on November 5th he has called a meeting with all heads of justice to discuss the new Criminal Code. 

"I do not think that the Criminal Code or any other type of code is measured by the provisions it has, but essentially it is measured by the qualities and guarantees it offers, for the public interest, for the citizens, for the economy and the various crimes that occur. We cannot claim that we have more illegality or that we had illegality and we did not know about it. In the end we will have a product that guarantees and includes transparency and since July 25, when that draft was first launched, as a very good material to provoke discussion and since then a series of consultative roundtables have been held.

We have several justice institutions that have taken this draft very seriously and have followed up and shared with us, both at the discussion tables, but also in writing, their opinion. On November 5, I, as Minister of Justice, called a meeting with all the heads of justice to discuss precisely the Criminal Code. I am convinced that at the end of the day we will have a product that is the best and that Albania will have for the years to come” , said Lamallari. /CNA
