The head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, announced from the floor of the Parliament that he has requested the Ethics Committee to expel the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, from the Parliament for 30 days. Balla said that the request was made due to Berisha's accusations against the EU ambassador, Silvio Gonzato.
"Commissioner Marta Kos has issued an official statement asking the DP to distance itself from this shameful statement. I have informed you that for this serious diplomatic incident and the attack on the ambassador, we have filed a request based on the Code of Ethics. Based on Article 65/1, disciplinary measures include exclusion from parliamentary committees and plenary sessions. We have addressed the Ethics Committee to request the exclusion of MP Sali Berisha for 30 days," said Balla.
Berisha said earlier that the draft law on gender equality in Albania is a directive of the EU Ambassador, Silvio Gonzato, not of the European Union itself. /CNA
