Oscar nominations revealed/The film "Sinners" breaks records with 16

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially revealed the full list of nominations for the 98th Academy Awards.

Oscar-nominated actress Danielle Brooks and actor Lewis Pullman revealed the nominations live from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

"Sinners" broke the record for Oscar nominations, with 16, including one in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' newest category, best ensemble. "One Battle After Another" followed with 13 nominations, while "Frankenstein," "Marty Supreme" and "Sentimental Value" each received nine nominations.

The best actress category was filled with stellar performances this year. Golden Globe nominees include Amanda Seyfried, Julia Roberts, Chase Infinity, Jennifer Lawrence, Tessa Thompson and Eva Victor.

George Clooney, who played a Hollywood star very similar to himself in "Jay Kelly," was left off the best actor list.

Despite "Frankenstein" earning eight nominations, including the award for best picture, Directors Guild nominee Guillermo del Toro was not mentioned for directing (though he did earn a nomination for his adapted screenplay).

It's been common practice for Hollywood to adapt a Broadway musical to create a new song in the hopes that it will earn a nomination for best original song. It often does, and on rare occasions ("Evita") they have won. But Stephen Schwartz, despite having two new "Wicked" songs on the Oscar shortlist, was left out. Also missing were: Miley Cyrus ("Avatar: Fire and Ash"), Ed Sheeran ("F1"), Billy Idol ("Billy Idol Should Be Dead") and Nine Inch Nails ("Tron: Ares").

The ceremony will take place on March 15, 2026, at the iconic Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be broadcast live, reaching audiences in more than 200 territories worldwide. /CNA
