New £2 coin honours writer George Orwell

A commemorative coin will soon be issued in the UK to honour the author of "1984" George Orwell and mark his death 75 years ago.

The collector's coin will go into circulation tomorrow with prices starting at £17.50 each. The coin features an image of an eye on one side and the inscription on the other.

Coin artist Henry Gray explains it this way: "The eye (in the design) is not a realistic eye. There are no eyelashes and things like that, because I wanted it to be monocular. It's almost like a camera lens that's looking at you all the time, tearing up."
