The Prosecutor's Office of Asturias in Spain has requested a sentence of 54 years in prison for four members of a network of drug traffickers who tried to smuggle more than 72 kilograms of cocaine through the port of Aviles in 2020.

3 of the defendants are originally from Peru, while another is Albanian. They are part of an organization that trafficked large quantities of cocaine into Spain and then distributed it throughout the territory.

The head of this group, with a military background, was the person responsible for the trafficking operation in the first months of 2020. He made the plans, coordinated each member and assigned them tasks.

Two of the defendants were also military, but also professional divers with extensive knowledge of underwater operations.

The defendants had taken two bags with 60 pieces of cocaine and wanted to bring them to Asturias by ship. The drugs left the port of Callao in Peru, went to Paris, Amsterdam, while the next destination was Catalonia, Spain.

From here, on March 10, 2020, the 4 traffickers were going to leave by boat to Asturias, but when they spotted the police, they replaced the packages and threw the drugs into the sea. They put a GPS device on the narcotic so that they could take it again, but the police discovered it and took it out of the sea, while they arrested the 4 traffickers./ CNA
