AMP agent Muçi Shaljani is intubated. According to reports, Shaljani has received 10 bullets, 2 of which in the head, and 8 others in the body.

Shaljani was injured in the assassination attempt the day before, in which Emiljano Shullazi's right-hand man, Gilmando Dani, was killed.

The attack took place at around 2:20 p.m. at the roundabout near Rinas Airport. 50 bullets were fired at the vehicle in which Dani and Muçi were traveling.

The pair had just arrived from Barcelona. Gilmando Dani was a well-known name in the underworld.

Dani was one of the members of Emiljano Shullazi's group. He was known as his right-hand man.

Gilmando Dani's first official precedent dates back to February 11, 2006. He was arrested after being declared wanted and sentenced to 1 year in prison on charges of "illegal possession of combat weapons" and "collusion intimidation."

During his arrest, the police also seized weapons and ammunition, Skorpions type automatic pistols with silencers, two Croatian-made automatic rifles and a Kalashnikov, a short-range communication radio, a radio interceptor of the waves of the Police structures (in Tirana and the surrounding areas), a police vest, special night vision binoculars, regular binoculars, as well as masks, gloves and other camouflage equipment.

Dani has been linked to Emiljano Shullazi's criminal group, often described as his "right-hand man" in criminal activities.

Charges and convictions

On August 7, 2009, Gilmando Dani was searched after the murder of four police officers in Durrës by Dritan Dajti.

The police suspected that Dani might have been at the scene. It was later discovered that Dani had no connection to the Durrës massacre. The Serious Crimes Prosecution blocked his passport for several days, a measure that was lifted after no evidence was found to implicate him.

Gilmando Dani's name has been mentioned in police operations, verification calls and control procedures, based on operational information linking his social circle to other individuals investigated for criminal activity.

In November 2018, the First Instance Court for Serious Crimes in Tirana found him guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in prison.

Dani was placed under the “41-bis” regime (used for high-risk prisoners) until his transfer to the regular security prison in Rrogozhina in March 2022.

He has given evidence in court related to his meeting with YB and his introduction by Shullazi.

Dani has been assassinated twice before, but was injured. The incidents occurred in 2011 and 2015.

Dani was released from prison on October 6, 2024 after serving most of his sentence./ CNA
